AILA Leadership Has Just Posted the Following:
Take 15 minutes today and watch this very moving Frontline documentary about the devastating effect of the Postville, Iowa ICE raid on the town and on the two villages in Guatemala where the immigrants came from. http://bit.ly/GWBVu[/URL]
The Postville operation was the largest ICE raid in U.S. history and resulted in the arrest, detention, and convictions of nearly 400 undocumented workers, most of whom were poor, uneducated Guatemalan farmers.
It makes me wonder what Iowa leaders are doing to help the people of Postville, who now live in economic ruin; especially Senator Tom Harkin, who has never condemed the unjust Postville prosecutions nor visited the town since the raid, yet recommended Stephanie Rose, one of the lead Postville prosecutors, to be U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa.https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/186823568153827945-87808768427206364?l=ailaleadership.blogspot.com

I was on H1 visa and laid off from job on 10/30/09. I got severance pay for Nov. and have the pay stubs. I applied for COS from H4 to F1 for my spouse (already in collage) and H1 to F2 for me on 12/9/09. Meanwhile immigration performed spot check at my ex-employers on 12/3/09, so they came to know that i was not working. My employer had not revoked H1 by then. Our COS application was received by USCIS on 12/14/2009, case is currently under Initial Review.
- Will the immigration officers who did spot check inform USCIS that i was out of status?
- Will case get rejected due to delay in applying for COS?
- Will there be any complications in transferring my H1 to new employer as i was out of status for about a month before i applied for COS?
- How to stop F2 COS if i get H1 transfer approved first?

My spouse is out of country and she cannot comeback immediately since we are waiting for my H1 extension approval. Taking visa appointment days and airline availability in to consideration, she may not be able to make it back before end of july. I heard you can always add spouse later while 485 is still in progress. What are the implications if I go this path ?

Back in 1986, Immigration Judges denied almost 90% of all asylum requests. Now, during the past 9 months, the Judges granted 50% of asylum requests. What's more, the disparities among various Immigration Judges have narrowed somewhat. This information is contained in a new report issued by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) of the University of Syracuse. This increase in approvals tracks with another important consideration: In 1986, only a little more than half of all asylum applicants were represented by an attorney. Today, over 90% of asylum applicants have attorneys. Attorney-represented asylum seekers have their cases granted 54% of...

I am in my 5th yr of H1, and my H1 status will expire next year on Nov 1, 2011.
My I140 filed and is with the appeal Office since jan 2009, with no decision.
I wanted to know what my options are with the current scenario.
What are the chances of this appeal being approved? ( it was denied based on 5 yrs of education vs 6 years)
If the appeal is denied, can I transfer the Labor to an EB3, with the same Priority Date?
Since there is no decision yet, do I have to file another Labor cert ( a new one) for H1 extension.
How can I still maintain this priority date?
If I have to file a new Labor cert, can that be done in EB2,with a different job title?

Greetings,
I recently came across this site looking for information, then stumbled upon this contest and thought I'd drop an entry. This was drawn with the Brush tool in Adobe Illustrator.

Somehow I am in double mind whether to join or not join this new employer, I was just worrried since he has my labor certificate he can negatively affect me , if I do not join this new employer. Please advise if he can negatively affect me any way, or what precation I need to take in case I do not join him.

President Obama has selected three foreign-born scholars to serve on his Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). The first of the three immigrants on PCAST is Mario Molina. Professor Molina, a Mexican native, is the winner of the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. It was awarded based on his discovering the threat posed by CFCs to the ozone layer. Professor Molina is a member of the Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty at the University of California, San Diego and the Center for Atmospheric Sciences at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He is also the Director of the Mario Molina...

The Migration Policy Institute has released a report outlining the impact of the global downturn on the movement of immigrants. Key findings include the following: The recession has dampened the movement of economic migrants to the major immigrant-receiving regions of the world. And, counter to some widely held public perceptions, immigrants overwhelmingly are choosing to stay put in their adopted countries rather than return home despite higher unemployment and lack of jobs. While the overall picture is one of sharp remittance decline, some regions are experiencing remittance increases or are holding steady. Though remittances have dropped globally amid...

Hi
This is my current status
I am on H1 B visa and currently working in the US. My visa expires in July, 2011.
I was sent to the US on a long term onsite assignment from the company I was working in bangalore, India. I am asked to come back to India in June 2010.
What are the implications of me quitting thecurrent job once I go back to India? Is my H1 B visa still valid?
In case if I go back to India and move to a different company, do I have to go through everything starting from filing the H1 petition to get the H1 visa?
Kindly reply

Maybe few visas might get rejected because they would have tried to stay in USA permanently. Yes, you may apply for L1 visa extension using Form I-129, and L Supplement. Extensions of two years at a time may be allowed until you have been in the U.S. for a total of seven years if you are a manager or executive.

Ten Economic Facts about Immigration - Brookings Institution (http://www.brookings.edu/reports/2010/09_immigration_greenstone_looney.aspx)
A major economic concern is how immigrants influence the wages and employment prospects of U.S. workers. The economic impacts of immigration vary tremendously, depending on whether immigrants are unskilled agricultural laborers, for example, or highly skilled PhD computer scientists. Although their consequences are often conflated, it is constructive to examine the impacts of low-skilled and high-skilled immigrants independently.
Is it possible for the administration to do a study on this matter through a commission - and take its recommendations to formulate the laws accordingly - and immediately? This takes away the usual BS that politicians from both side dish us?
