I go to India atleast once every year and I agree that the urban infrastructure has changed a lot. But, such a change has created overcrowding in major cities which has lead to heavy pollution, rocketing inflation, high cost of living, and what not. You can get anything you want - best education, best food, best best best .... if you can afford.
During one of the trips couple of years back I did a casual interview at a huge software giant in Chennai just to guage how well I will fit. This was for a programming job in C++. Interview was rookie, intrerviewer was surprised why I want to come back because people actually seek such companies as route to US or UK and also made me feel that I may not be satisfied with the job if he has to offer.
So here is the thing. If you want to go back and lead a good life - I think it is a good idea provided you have very good education and experience and you get into the league of executives or you want to set up some booming business.
If you want to go back and work at a managerial level - you may not find things that interesting because of the affordibnility factor.
It is totally upto you to decide. Approach ur credit uniion. they will eventually sell ur loan to BAC or the big banks.
my friends were on H1. Be careful with words you use becuase the lender or anyone at walmart or honda are not that educated about the pains of GC process and not that they are bad and dont want ur business.

The following are the reason for Eb3 situation.
Anyone who have 3 year or 4 year degree can apply. So Other country also there is a demand. So it is nearly impossible to get other country quota. For a few thousand green cards atleast 100k persons might have applied till 2008 in EB3. So there is not much chance for improvement. It may move a few months to 2 years in 2009.If some bill is passed then most persons will get relief. But still some chances for recapture bill in house. But the reaction at Senate to be seen. Next year they may give a best attempt for CIR so that Congressmen will get a chance to do overtime also for hot news in Media. As usual CIR is unpredictable at best.
EB3 does not require a 4 year degree. It consists of people helping in cooking, full time baby sitters from third world countries, helpers in grocery stores, farm workers, nurses, etc as well. This is why the participation of EB3 folks here is very less and IV attracts only the technical work force. I would suggest a mass campaign to attract this crowd as well to IV for support. Even if they are brought, due to the low wage rate I do not think how much of contribution that will result for IV.

I am working with a bank for my new Mortgage. The bank is asking for 3 year continuous VISA (forward) as a requirement.
My situation is H1 + 485 (I-140 Approved)
my current H1 will expire in December 2009, I cannot apply for extension until June 09 (180 days )
but Bank guys are asking for 3 yr VISA, they are not even looking on my H1b Approval letter as there is a line mentioned in there as "This form is not a visa nor may it be used in place of a VISA"

Pappu, I agree what you are saying. But the bigger issue here is the awareness.. I talk to so many friends and friend's friend. The only thing that I find is they are not aware of IV or its effort.
Lack of awareness is another issue for IV community to form a lobby group like others.
IV has too many contacts in the media, would that not be a great idea to leverage them to advertise at prime time on Indian channels , or just the google ads on Dishnetwork screen for cheap or work out something.
Just to get the people an awareness of what IV is and get them a feeling that its BIG enough to help them. Support some candidates in the election, just to get the name floating. Leave aside the American, Indians or chinese(mostly the legal immigrants) I sometime work with don't know anything about IV. I go to SFO meet my parents almost every month and my brother's circle (all citizens) have no idea of what I am talking about. All they know there was problem is Labor clearance in their time which is no more now.
What is IV , who is IV........ no idea at all. NADA.
A planned campaign to make th awareness can help our cause.

After passing this bill politicians will cosy up and say good things to rebuild relations. The real impact can happen if Indians in New York state who can vote stand up against such laws. Same goes for the Desi companies who have tried to raise the voice against USCIS memo. They lack grassroots advocacy and support. Their Indian US citizen friends are busy organizing Diwali melas and Shahrukh Khan stage shows. Immigration voice can be extremely successful if politicians see us as an immigrant lobby. Just like they see Jewish lobby or Hispanic lobby. This is why participation of IV greencard members and citizen friends is important to advocate for changes that helps the immigrant community. I this case too, IV community should not turn a blind eye to what happens around us. Just because we do not work for such companies or we already have EAD does not mean we do not see beyond the headline of this issue. We spend more time analyzing , over analyzing, predicting and tracking rather than actively understanding the politics of issues that are causing all the problems we are facing. To some extent this law passed because Indians in USA did not care due to their narrow outlook and priorities in politics.

I missed the july fiasco by 15 days. Atleast if we get the administrative fix to apply atleast 485. That would help us a lot, after labor if we are allowed to apply for 485 within a specific timeframe it would be nice.

I am in for this. This is not so expensive than paying the lobbyist. The objective is to catch media's attention and have our sentiments be publicized in major newspapers and tv news.
This is a novel idea and more cost effective than paying major newspaper to publish our sentiments. They will come to IV for interviews just like in the past during the flower campaign.

there is still time even for the rally
if not going- plenty of time :-)
guys they are shipping very quick
all i did was to use "standard" instead of regular shipping
cost me less than $2 more for 3 items
here's my deal:
ordered friday night
shipped monday morning (first working day)
in transit now and scheduled for delivery wednesday
so you can still order and get it for the rally!!!!

You may want to get in touch with core members if you have questions. They are very prompt in answering questions.Such posts will only create roadblocks to the momentum created on the forum by some of our members. It is time to help rather than ask. We have seen in the lameduck session how close we came to getting the bill passed. If IV was not there, even this much was not possible. We give thousands of dollars to our lawyers, can't we simply give 20 dollars to IV without asking questions and believing in this cause?
I don't give any money without asking questions. Sorry, I am just that way. And I am guessing most people are like that. I have given money in the past, however, and have contributed in many other ways as well.
Oh, and rather than acting as a roadblock, it will actually help the process.

IV friends ,
Last week my lawyer has asked for copy of Driving License of me and my wife for filing the H1-B and H4 extension.
Then one of my friend told me that INS is asking for copy of the driving license for filing the h1-B extension.
My employer is supposed to file my 3 year Extension based on I-140 in Dec this year( Dec 2007) but my Licences expires on Sept 2008, So I will I be just getting the extension till Sept 2008 and Not 3 year extension.
Any Idea on that
I have already submitted my driving license to my lawyer.
Please Let me know because I was couting on that I will get 3 year extension this time.
Ask your lawyer why the driver's license is required? Passport is an accepted form of identification. Either your lawyer is ignorant(time to get a new lawyer?) - or he is taking you for a ride (he will milk you/ your employer for more money when extension time will come again).

Not sure if anyone else has faced this so wanted to put this out: I own a home and have a loan on it since 2003 (I was on H1 when i took the loan), now that the ARM is about to adjust i am in the market for refinance.
There is however a question on all the loans underwritten by freddy/fanny asking for immigration status and if the answer is EAD the loan is denied. They even sent me an explanation of denial.....:confused:
