While IV is a big organization with 20K+ members, I haven't seen the transparency, All I have seen is tons of threads being created requesting members to donate money, However Is there any transparency in the way the money is being spent the answer is a Big NO. I have seen someone posting threads on IV tax filings (some disgruntled member for sure ) and those getting deleted within few hours....
There was also thread on the need to pass on the immigration torch to the next generation to take it further...and this is a good start if the core committee can be elected perhaps once in 2 yrs or something and any core team member wanting to re-election goes back and compete with someone who feels they can do a better job.
Without fresh blood and fresh thinking the organization will fail to attract new members.

There are 2 options in my opinion.
1. Secure an appointment with the local ASC and have them expedite this case if you want to travel early. They may require some supporting documents. The appointment can be made via Infopass at http://infopass.uscis.gov/index.php
2. Call USCIS at the number on your receipt notice. Select a series of numbers as per the prompts to talk to a Service Rep. Tell them your urgency to travel and they will expedite your case. It will take 5 business days from the date the request gets expedited to get a response back from USCIS.

There are so many who missed the July 07...
we should try to seek temporary relief..allowing to file for 485 even without PD veing current.
CIR will happen when it has to happen..maybe after the health bill ...but IV not doing anything else while waiting for it is sad....
Second that! I hope something happens, is there any information as to when the pre-filing for I485 will be implemented.

Please file for SSNs quoting this stimulus package and get the refund. If someone tries and SSA refuses, we can take it up with legislators or even pursue litigation.
I am the person who originally compiled the information. I am in the process of appealing the first SSA denial and I am in touch with my local congresswoman about this. If you want to get involved, please let me know. Also, I recommend that everyone contacts his or her congressman/congresswoman even if you are not directly affected. Most legislators are not even aware of how this rule affects people. We need to stop groups like FAIR from pushing through more legislation that discriminates against immigrants.
Finally, if the SSA denies my appeal, I am planning to file with the federal appeals court. Any ideas on how to go about this are appreciated.

I can understand attorney's thinking: H1B is good to have. If there is no reason for its revocation (i.e applicant is still working for H1 sponsor), then there is some level of protection for you. Another aspect is a legal status. While EAD gives you an opportunity to continue work legally if I-485 is denied, it does not protect your legal status (accumulate more than 180 days of unlawful presence and you lose eligibility to adjust status and are a subject to re-entry ban). Having H1B gives you a protection in this case. But if H1B is revoked, I-485 is denied and a person does not have EAD, then there is no escape. It's nice to have both, but maintaining EAD should be the priority.

Thanks for the idea. May I request you to please inform every one here, number of hours that you can spend volunteering for IV? I ONLY contributed DOLLARS, but never contributed TIME and I feel ashamed of that. There are many people who have contributed both dollars and time.
If you promise some time volunteering to IV for all the ideas that you listed, I am PROMISING to contribute DOLLARS for you. Are you ready? If so, please send email to IV core.

Here is my point. I spend several hours 3-4 hours at least every day looking through the forum posts hoping to find ways i can contribute to efforts. There are several ideas that are generated in the forum. But cannot find out who is leading it. All i am saying is if we can have a listing of initiatives with some names associated. So i can contribute to the ones that i can support.
I am not sure if i am asking for too much here. I am not a IT guy. I do not know what it takes to post it in the front page.

I also had to go thru it. I would suggest to give them a copy of I-140 approval. that is an approved doc, than a pending I-485.
Good part is, the Underwriters generally know about the immigration process and would take 1-140 approval doc as a valid doc.

From Sept 2008 visa bulletin: "The Mexico F2A and Employment Third preference cut-off dates are “unavailable” for both August and September, since those FY-2008 annual limits have been reached. The Visa Office had originally anticipated that this would be a temporary situation. Then with the start of the new fiscal year in October the cut-off dates would have returned to those which had applied during June. Who is uscis answerable to ? how about sending letters to all the congress man and senators asking them to raise theor voice about the functionality of uscis?

Very good info, thanks for the posting. BUt its still not clear whether the spouse who is on EAD and does not work at all or for that matter 6 months in a given year, will she/he be eligible for setting up a S -corp??

My interpretation is that if the spouse (with EAD), in question has been in residence in the US for more than 6 months in a year, she would be considered a resident for tax purposes, and therefore be eligible to set up a S-corporation.

Just out of curiosity, what's stopping you from doing some of these things now? You probably cannot spend 3 months with your family in India and Dubai or go to culinary school full-time but you can definitely do all the rest while on H-1B/AOS.
