Just follow the processing times and see whether number has been called or not. 99% of the crowd thinks here that we can get a better policy by making our voice heard. We cannot expect core members to be online all the time, and we cannot expect to see lobbying related information unless a bill actually comes out. I think what we CAN do is keep the average members like me who want to do something, engaged with things that are within reach.
FOIA campaign was a great example of this.
However, I am very sad to report that only 3 other members from Texas Chapter participated. With such level of participation, I am not even sure that such campaigns are meaningful. Lobbying seems the best option, where we can pay and then be lazy the rest of the time, but the drawback is that updates will be once in 6 months or a year depending on when bill is being introduced.
With all due respect to the selfless hard work of IV core, I concur with ItIsNotFunny. There are many members who feel this way. IV core should be more open to members. I feel a cloud of secrecy always surrounding IV. Of course they cannot be public about all their activities, but more needs to be done on this front. You will see more members actively participating if core is more open.

yabadaba, we will always have tough opposition when we try to do something. Your op-ed was very good and some people could not swallow it. You know some people can't imagine anyone from your country having good english! All these media efforts help us raise awareness, send our message across to the masses to counter anti immigrant propaganda. Due to our press coverage lawmaker offices too have started to take us seriously. Thanks to you and other IV members that are constantly helping this organization in media efforts, whether it is as small as writing emails, getting interviewed or writing articles. This retrogression and slow forward movement was a problem in the making. Last summer IV core had warned about this issue. The writing on this issue was on the wall, now we have numbers to prove it. Last year (2008) we ducked the issue because EB folks got lucky since almost 23K visa wasted by FB folks in 2007 was counted as part of EB limit in 2008. This year no such luck, we are stuck with our usual quota's. Refresh your memory with an old thread from last summer. (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19042)
Folks don't narrow this issue to an Indian/chinese issue. All EB3 folks and EB2 (reto countries) are affected by the retrogression. When the system is broken blame the system and not the individual department. Looks like members like to take a dig at USCIS for every problem in the system. Go talk to your lawmakers if you have issues with the system, they are the one who drafted the limits. Your labor was delayed not because of USCIS but by DOL. Yes USCIS is not a perfect org but they do their best. USCIS wasn't equipped to handle millions of EAD/AP every year aren't they issuing they issuing it within reasonable time. Give some respect to the org and just don't use it as a punch bag for all your problems. If you have issues with wastage of visa's go ask the lawmakers who introduced the 245i provision in 2000. They showed the EB folks with ~130K recapture and flooded the system with 245i applicants and caused ~130K visa numbers wasted between 2000-present. What was the net gain? We should collective organize and do active lobbying with IV, otherwise we will be taken for another ride in CIR.

I see that a lot of us feel really stuck because of the long GC process and yet we continue to wait. Eventually we all want to have:
1. Freedom to switch jobs
2. Freedom to start businesses
3. Freedom to travel
4. Freedom to have spouse working
I hope and pray that it comes thru sooner than later for all of us. Let's say you get your GC in 1-2-x years. How many years after that would you go back? 2-3 or wait till you get US citizenship? Would you give up the GC after having spent 5+ years waiting and maybe a total of 8-10+ years in US?
For those of us who are thinking that I want to go back eventually, what steps do you plan to take once you get your GC? The reason I raise this question is, it was easy to adapt to a new place when you were young. 6-10 years later (and a couple of kids later :-) what are some of the things you intend to do make your transition homewards easier? Has anyone considered taking on positions with significant travel to India(or your home country) so that you can get accustomed to the lifestyle/work environment/business back home?

Yeah but if the PDs are set as unavailable, what can they do about those cases anyway, as the priority date has to be current on the day of approval in the consulate.
Furthermore, unlike with 485s they can't consular process 18K cases on a Sunday! It is not a centralised process for them to do that.
I think they have to be current when they get an appointment or something like that. I am pretty sure that they accounted those 18k as CP numbers
